10 Good Movies Made for Adults That Are Appropriate for Tweens

It’s getting harder for parents to get movies they can watch with their children, especially at this time when most films have loads of inappropriate content.

The good news is that tweens who bridge the gap between teenagehood and childhood can also enjoy some of these “adult” movies. These are the top recommendations for a perfect movie night with tweens.

1. Knives Out (2019)

This movie is about the death of an 85-year-old wealthy man named Harlan Thrombey. His death was made to look like he took his own life. Still, after findings by a private detective called Benoit Blanc, it was deduced that Harlan’s grandson Ransom (played by Chris Evans) tried to kill him. It is a movie with just the right amount of suspense and mystery; it is fantastic for a family movie night.

This comedy movie stars Sean William Scott as Doug Stauber. He is an assistant manager at a supermarket with his eyes on a higher role.

The film also features John C. Reilly as Richard Wehlner. Richard Wehlner is a Canadian who just started working in the store with Doug and who he thinks wants to take his dream position from him. It’s all about getting the big promotion!

This $30 million budget movie has a plot that involves love and monsters, just as the title suggests. The main character, Joel Dawson, is played by Dylan O’Brien.

The movie centers on him trying to find the girlfriend he got separated from during an asteroid collision. Although Joel finds his girlfriend, Aimee, things don’t go how he envisioned.

4. Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

You might be shocked that this isn’t a gangster film. Instead, it’s an Indian film about a young boy who wins the Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. The movie was so loved that it got nominated for ten Academy Awards and won eight.

5. The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985)

This classic movie was written and directed by Woody Allen. The fantasy comedy film won the BAFTA Award for Best Film.

The movie’s plot follows Cecilia, who tries to escape her horrible life by going to the movies. Cecilia gets the chance to live the life of a movie character when a character in the film she had watched repeatedly comes alive.

It is a movie about war, the military, Canada, and The U.S. You may want to try it if you’re worried it’s another high-paced movie with pointless action.

The film is an actual Canadian Bacon, a satirical comedy examining the relationship between Canada and the United States. It would have you cracking up with your tweens!

7. Bottle Rocket (1996)

Another comedy film right here. It stars James Caan and brothers Owen Wilson and Luke Wilson. The movie didn’t get as much commercial success, but it is still a classic. It revolves around friends who want to make ends meet by becoming robbers. Well, it didn’t go according to plan.

The Mummy is an entire franchise created by Nina Wilcox Putnam and Richard Schaye. All the movies have some things in common. It involves an archaeologist, or a group of archaeologists, accidentally awakening a peacefully resting mummy. The mummy then goes on a hunting spree.

This is the first animated film on this list; it tells the story of a young girl named Chihiro Ogino. She and her family take a little detour on the way to their new home, but tragedy strikes.

Now, Chihiro has to fight to save her parents from the spell they were under. Spirited Away explores Japanese culture and is one of the most beautiful stories ever. It has received high critical acclaim and has been compared to the likes of Alice in Wonderland.

Colin Firth from Kingsman: The Secret Service starred in this historical drama. He plays the role of King George VI, who has a stutter and has to manage it.
