Have you ever watched a show that looked really promising, maybe your friends even hyped it up, but it turned out completely different from what you expected? Well, it happens to all of us at some point. Sometimes even if a movie or show is a complete flop but receives a lot of attention, no one will ever criticize it—except, of course, Redditors.

The Outer Banks is a 2022 Netflix series about best friends going on a treasure hunt. It stars Madelyn Cline, Chase Stokes, Rudy Pankrow, and Madison Bailey.

One person said, “I felt like that was so popular and everyone said how much they loved it and I was just like meh why am I watching this? Ykyk.”

Another Redditor replied, “Yeah it’s a Gen Z show for sure.”

2. 13 Reasons Why

“Tbh first season had its moments. Certainly struck a few chords with myself since i have a history of being bullied. But to carrying it on for 3 more seasons? Was completely uncalled for lol. One was more than enough,” one person shared.

“No idea lmao. Stopped watching it after the first. Had an inkling of interest since they left the ending open but I never got around to it. Honestly, the ending really did make a mockery of suicide. However, the only good thing this show brought was seeing the effects of bullying up front and close. Any attention brought to that is good IMO. It's a shame this was poorly written to make it more about the drama than the cause it was trying to help,” another commenter said.

3. Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story

The intriguing story about a psychotic serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer, on Netflix got people watching and even loving it. However, the show also got its share of hatred, with some questioning how Netflix portrayed Dahmer.

“It scares me how many people genuinely think the Dahmer series is good as in show quality rather than actually depicting a genuinely disgusting person,” one person said.

“I would not watch it. I was kid in Chicago (not in Milwaukee) at the time, but it was frankly scary to hear about. Why the heck would I watch a whole series about that psycho?” the second person replied.

4. Wednesday

Who can ever forget Jenna Ortega’s portrayal of Wednesday and her famous “Bloody Mary” dance? As it turns out, the show was overhyped, according to Redditors.

One person stated, “Wednesday is an ordinary teen TV series but it has become so popular that I think it is greatly overrated.”

Another Redditor said, “It reminded me of any generic CW-type show with the Adams Family slapped on it. Though I do give Jenna Ortega props for her portrayal of Wednesday.”

A third commenter added, “I think it’s a really good show however the trend of becoming emo and doing the dance scene quite exaggerated is annoying 💀.”

5. Stranger Things

Stranger Things is known for many things: the girl named “El” with psychokinetic power; Vecna, who abducts poor children and brings them to the “other side,” the Demogorgons; and its excellent storylines and characters. However, it appears to be an overrated series, according to some Redditors.

“Stranger Things lost me somewhere during season 3. I made it to the final few episodes and just never cared to finish,” one person stated.

“I watched season 1 almost out of a sense of obligation due to the overall hype of the show. Never went back for any other seasons. I was honestly pretty bored with it,” a second commenter replied.

“Season 1 was amazing, rest of the seasons were disappointing,” another added.

6. Emily in Paris

Emily in Paris surely got a lot of hype, but is it overrated? According to some Redditors, it absolutely is. Lily Collins is known for her role as Emily Cooper, who falls in love with the place.

“The show was so controversial behind the scenes that it caused the Golden Globes to be cancelled for 2022. Hollywood Foreign Press revealed to be extremely corrupt because Emily in Paris producers made extraordinary favors in return for awards,” one person said.

Another person replied, “It's so bad I love it so much. It comes really good when I come home beaten from work overloading my brain that the only thing I can watch is some stupid drama in someone's life.”

7. Suits

One person said, “I figure most people know [it's overrated] though, which is why all the memes are about the first couple of episodes and nothing beyond that.”

The second one replied in agreement, “Precisely.”

Harry & Meghan tells the story of the royal couple—Prince Harry and Meghan Markle—from courtship, and early dating to their challenges and some aspects of their lives. The first and final episodes were released on December 2022.

“I only watched the first two episodes, which were a lot of background and history, and I enjoyed that. I’m sure it gets mean and accusatory later on, but if it stuck with “here’s who we were and the influences in our formative years, and how we came together,” it would be just fine,” one person said.

A second commenter replied, “Was that rated highly? That show had people complaining before it was released.”
