We've all heard the famous adage that “no publicity is bad publicity,” and while it tends to be accurate, there are certainly exceptions. We expect celebrities to have at least some controversy associated with their name, be it an old scandal or a fresh feud. But what about those few stars who stay out of the limelight and get along without a hint of trouble?
In this blog post, we're taking a closer look at some celebrities with absolutely zero controversies. Read on as we explore why controversy might not always be beneficial for one's career!
1. Steve Buscemi
One user posted, “Steve Buscemi.”
Another Redditor shared his short experience with the actor: “Can vouch from personal experience. I'm a writer and was lucky enough to have Steve Buscemi cast in one of my movies. I was on the set, and one day I brought my then-9-year-old son. Steve went out of his way to engage my son in conversation—real, genuine conversation—asking him what he was interested in, etc. He is the kindest, nicest man. And SUCH a good & funny actor.”
“Did he say ‘How do you do, fellow kid?' to your son?” replied one user jokingly.
Steve Buscemi was a Firefighter
A fourth commenter shared, “I respect Buscemi so much because of his past career as a firefighter and helping them out whenever he can, like him returning to his old station house after 9/11 and helping them dig through the rubble. Of course, it helps that my dad is a firefighter, volunteer, not a career, but I'll always respect him for that reason.”
2. Sean Astin
Sean Patrick Astin is an actor. Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Mikey Walsh in The Goonies, Daniel Ruettiger in Rudy, and Doug Whitmore in 50 First Dates are among his film appearances.
One Redditor posted, “He's such a gem, and so lovely to all his fans, and just such a wholesome person, I don't know how you couldn't love him.”
Sean Astin is Approchable
One user added, “One of these days, I'm gonna get the courage to walk up to him at comic con. He is always jogging in the morning around the hotels at Comic con. He has been in some of my favorite movies: The Goonies, Lord of the Rings, Rudy, and even Stranger things. He has been my favorite actor since I can remember.”
3. “Weird Al” Yankovic
One Redditor shared, “Weird Al Yankovic. Decades-long career so devoid of controversy that they actually made some up for the faux biopic Weird starring Daniel Radcliff.”
Another replied, “The running joke about “Eat It” being an original composition had me dying.”
Weird Al and his Band can Mimic Anybody
“Not only went on with the tour, but he also went on with the show he was currently performing when he learned the news. I've seen him six times live, and it is still one of the best shows I've ever been to. For any unfamiliar, check out some of his original songs in addition to his parodies, as I think they are his best work. Lest I put all the praise on Al and forget his band, who are absolutely incredible, they can mimic any genre and make it sound original.
“Beating you to the same show comment,” another commented.
4. Alex Trebek
One user commented, “Alex Trebek. He managed to live long and not become the villain.”
Still Great, Even Without the Mustache
Another user added, “He shaved that glorious 70's ‘mustache. That's a crime against humanity.”
One commenter said, “I never got over the loss of that glorious stache myself. 👨🏻”
5. Cillian Murphy
Cillian Murphy is a well-known Irish actor. He was the main singer, guitarist, and lyricist for the rock band The Sons of Mr. Green Genes until he turned down a record contract in the late 1990s and started performing on stage and in short and indie films.
One user shared, “Yes!! I love him for being so down to earth, and he stays away from all the Hollywood crap.”
You're telling me about the guy who plays Thomas Shelby.. Is nothing like Thomas Shelby?” another added.
Cillian Murphy is Almost Too Nice
A user then responded, “Apparently, he nearly didn't get the role because he was too nice, and the casting director was on the way to meet with Jason Statham (now that would have been a rather different casting choice!), when Murphy phoned them up and said, ‘I am an actor, you know.' Honestly, he was so good in that role. Absolutely and completely hateable, but with so much charisma, you wanted to watch him anyway!”
6. Alan Rickman
One user posted, “Alan Rickman. Nuff said.”
Another user replied, “Oh man. Hidden Gem Alan Rickman in Closet Land. A movie about prisoners of conscience.”
Everyone Loves Alan Rickman
One commenter user also shared jokingly, “He did try to [take out] Harry Potter, should have gone after J.K Rowling.”
7. Jack Black
One Reddit user shared, “Jack Black.”
“I just rewatched Bernie last night, and he was superb. I wish he had gotten at least an Oscar nomination for that. He was also a gem in The Polka King,” another added.
Jack Black Knows How to Have Fun
A third user replied, “Talk about a Kid at Heart. Might be the most fun celebrity you could hang out with.”
