10 Celebrities People Automatically Assume Will Make a Movie Great

What actor or actress makes you assume a movie will be good just because they’re in the cast? I’ll go first. I love Sandra Bullock, and except for maybe two films, she nails every role and is gorgeous doing it. After someone asked the internet for other examples, these were the top-voted celebrities.

1. Leonardo DiCaprio

One person confessed, “I don’t think Leonardo DiCaprio’s the best actor in the world, but he does have good taste and seems to get sent every big role, so if he’s in a movie, it’s probably going to be good.” Another stated, “DiCaprio has never made a bad movie.”

2. Daniel Day-Lewis

“Daniel Day-Lewis is the perfect example of quality over quantity. As a result, his films are always exceptional,” claimed one. A second added, “He’s like a celestial event: he appears every seven years, makes an incredible film, wins/gets nominated for an Oscar, and then disappears for a while.”

3. Willem Dafoe

“Willem Dafoe,” one shared. “He’s incredible in EVERYTHING.” Another semi-quoted DaFoe in Spider-Man. “You know, I’m something of a Willem Dafoe fan myself.” Another argued, “I have a theory that every movie Defoe isn’t the lead in is awesome.”

4. Ralph Fiennes

Ralph Fiennes. While many offered movies they believed to be less than stellar (Maid in Manhattan), someone argued, “Nobody’s going to mention Schindler’s List? The English Patient? Wuthering Heights?” Another added, “Even his Lego movie role was great.”

5. Cillian Murphy

“Cillian Murphy. Everything he’s in is excellent! Cillian’s first movie, Disco Pigs, is phenomenal acting. Saw him do a one-person show once in Ireland. He played like six characters. So brilliant,” shared one. Another admitted, “Came here to say this. I loved his portrayal as Scarecrow in Batman Begins. Brilliant, brilliant character.”

6. Gary Oldman

One said, “Gary Oldman. Even if the movie sucks, he’s almost guaranteed to be good. He’s outstanding and has the most memorable performances in True Romance, The Dark Knight trilogy, and Harry Potter.” Others agreed with the sentiment, and one mentioned the spitting episode with Joey Tribbiani on Friends as hilarious.

7. Alan Rickman

“Alan Rickman,” replied one. “My favorite role of his is actually in Dogma. His sharp, witty deliveries are all over the place, but there’s also a moment of unexpected heart he puts out there that tears me up every time.” A second added, “His Diaries were recently published. I got them for Christmas, and I have to say they are well worth a look!”

8. Toni Collette

“Toni Collette. She could drag any movie to success. So good. I didn’t finish The Staircase because I couldn’t sit through her kill scenes,” someone confessed. A second added, “She’s so fierce and fearless, no matter the role.” Finally, a third stated, “The woman is just powerful. She deserved an Oscar for her performance in Hereditary.”

9. Phillip Seymour Hoffman

Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Someone shared, “Some critics praising Hoffman’s versatility wrote that Hoffman would have been great in many of Daniel Day-Lewis’s roles, but Daniel Day-Lewis could never have made that Along Came Polly role work.” Others argued he had played in boring movies but still stole the show.

10. Christian Bale

Finally, someone suggested, “Christian Bale. He is still the best live-action Batman to date and nails his other roles, too.” After some argued Thor: Love and Thunder wasn’t a great film, others argued his performance in it was and that the film wasn’t as awful of a movie as the internet makes it seem.
